'Explore the Night' in Downtown Saratoga

Happy New Year, Saratoga Springs.

Monday night, Saratoga residents ring in the New Year with First Night, an annual tradition downtown. There are 40 stages at 26 sites with night-long entertainment.

Anyone hoping to enjoy the festivities must purchase a First Night button, which gets them into all the venues. The buttons are $15, and can be purchased at a number of area retailers.

Children 12 and under can get in free with a GE Kids in Free coupon. That coupon is included with the First Night button. The coupon is then exchanged at several locations for a button that can be used for entry. The exchange can be made at the City Center, The Arts Center on Broadway at the corner of Congress Park, and the Lake Avenue Elementary School.

The 15th annual First Night 5K run takes place at 5:30pm. The start and finish are on the Skidmore College campus, and the route takes runners through downtown on Broadway. The event has become so popular, registration is already closed, and they will not be taking any day-of-race registrations.

If you’re heading out for the events, be sure to dress warmly – temperatures are forecast to be in the teens by the time the new year rolls in.
