A Suspect has been Arrested in Connection with Tuesday Gunpoint Robbery

A local man has been arrested and charged with robbery. 24 year old Johntay Jones of Grand Avenue was taken into custody late Tuesday night by Saratoga Springs police officers.

Jones is accused of robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint.

Tuesday morning police received a 9-1-1 call from a driver with Capitaland Taxi who said he had just been robbed near the Westside recreation field. Investigators arrived at the scene and found the driver with injuries to his face. The driver said he was hit in the face with the gun and his money was taken.

Police Lt. John Catone says that based on the driver’s description officers were able to quickly identify a suspect. “Then it was a matter of finding him.”

Catone says the suspect was known to the department because he has a criminal record. So, “We checked his hangouts.” And they talked with his family and friends, who eventually convinced him to turn himself in.

Jones has been charged with Robbery in the second degree, as well as a Class C felony. He was arraigned in city court on Wednesday morning and has been sent to the Saratoga County Jail with no bail.
